Geoff Anthony
Mainly self-taught until 1997 when I attended weekend classes at Julian Ashton’s in Sydney. I was there for twelve months sketching and painting around the City of Sydney.
In 1998 I held two solo exhibitions in Newtown and took part in a shared exhibition in Enmore. A technical branch sailor in the Royal Australian Navy having served on HMAS (FFG) Melbourne, HMAS Hobart and HMAS Brisbane. A long time surfer, a licensed Plumber & Gasfitter, a sheet metal worker and a fabricator/pressure welder.
I have always worked hard and over the last seven years have had around nine months on home soil. This makes life hard for the family. My painting keeps me level headed, keeps me focussed, keeps me grounded. My style was very difficult to maintain and improve upon at sea, but since I’ve been on shore my work has improved almost daily. I paint more than I surf these days (due to age) but still love the sea.
I have won no awards, but I don’t paint for accolades. I do what I do simply because I love doing it.
