Membership
Membership provides the opportunity to participate in society events and activities, and receive our bi-monthly Bulletin via email.
All members pay the same annual fee of $60AUD.
Existing members may renew their membership for the coming year between November and January- renew your membership here.
The society has three levels of membership: Membership; Exhibiting Membership; and Fellowship.
Membership is for aspiring marine artists, and those who are keenly interested in marine and maritime matters but are not necessarily practising artists. A member may indicate/publish that they are a member, but may not use “ASMA” after their name (ASMA being the acronym of our society’s full title: the Australian Society of Marine Artists).
Exhibiting Membership is the category which hosts the majority of our members, and is conferred on members whose work meets the Society’s standards for exhibiting. These members are practicing artists- they are welcome to enter the Society’s exhibitions, and use “ASMA” after their name.
Fellowship is conferred on those members who have attained exceptional standards in marine art and marine knowledge, and is elected by vote of their peers. They may use “FASMA” after their name.

The application process
There is no additional fee, as the annual fee is the same for members and exhibiting members alike. The process is that you must complete the below form and send it (with the required 4 images of your work) to the Secretary. All works submitted for review MUST be marine or maritime in subject. The application and artworks are reviewed and adjudicated by a panel of our esteemed Fellows. They approve or deny the application, and provide feedback surrounding their decisions and thoughts on the provided works. This decision and feedback is provided to the applicant by the Secretary, generally within a fortnight of application. Applicants who disregard the eligibility requirements will automatically be denied.
The application outcome is final, however applicants who are denied may be provided specific feedback to help them progress artistically, and may be encouraged to reapply in due course.
If you have questions or wish to discuss your application before submitting it, please contact the Secretary.
