John Woodland awarded Lifetime Membership
As a founding member who has staunchly supported the Society from its inception, a celebrated Fellow, and our much-appreciated Bulletin Editor for many years, John Woodland has been awarded Honorary Life ASMA Membership for his significant contributions to the Society.

2024 National Exhibition
The ASMA National Exhibition 2024 is fast approaching, bringing with it our annual celebration of the breadth and depth of skill that our membership has to offer. This year is is hosted by the Victorian Artists Society Gallery in Melbourne, located at 430 Albert Street, East Melbourne 3002. The opening night will take place from 2pm Saturday the 26th of October, and members and nonmembers alike are welcome to join the festivities and peruse the astonishing marine artwork on display.

Transition- an essay by John Downton
ASMA Fellow John Downton OAM has written a comprehensive and very interesting account of his life in art. John refers to how he got started, and many of the artists who have influenced him throughout his painting life. He recalls his experiences with amusing anecdotes about well-known and famous painters, past and present. Among those referred to are Arthur Murch, Henry Hanke, Leonard Long, Lloyd Rees and Albert Namatjira to name a few.
Alma Doepel paint out
May 5th 2024, Melbourne
There was a quiet turn out for the painting day at the Alma Doepel on North Wharf, Melbourne last Saturday the 5th May. Thank you to Jack Woods who took the photos, Ted Dansey, Mary Hyde and Julian Bruere painted. On the day we made good connections with Bill Reid and Peter Harris who are involved with the Alma Doepel restoration and Eden ___the Captain of the Enterprize docked nearby. Enterprize is spelt with a Z.
